The PoE-Powered USB-C Dock for iPad connects a USB-C iPad to ethernet and uses power over ethernet (PoE+) to charge the iPad. This enables an iPad to receive both data and power over a single Ethernet cable when connected to a PoE+ enabled switch or a PoE+ injector.
The Dock also provides a SuperSpeed USB-C port which can be used to connect one or more USB devices to the iPad. All USB devices that are natively supported by iOS are compatible with the dock.
Use cases for the USB-C port include:
In each of these cases a single PoE connection is used to power the entire configuration.
When connected to an iPad the Dock is instantly recognized as a network connection. The ethernet connection can be configured using the Settings app on the iPad.
The Dock physically connects to the iPad using a USB-C to USB-C cable (sold separately). It supports 10/100/1000 networking and provides bandwidth up to 900Mbps.
Using the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Once the Dock is connected to an iPad or iPhone, “Ethernet” will appear in the Settings app in between WiFi and Bluetooth. Both DHCP and Static IP addresses are supported.
The network connection provided by the Dock is available to be used by any iOS app. Please note that the FaceTime, Messages and Wi-Fi Calling apps do not currently support ethernet.
The Dock is a specialty form of USB 3 to Ethernet Adapter. It provides bandwidth up to 900 Mbps if a USB-IF certified USB 3 USB-C cable is being used to connect the C6-POEDOCK to the iPad. When used with a USB 2 USB-C cable the bandwidth will be roughly 350 Mbps.
Not currently. Perhaps a future version of iOS will support this.
Yes. Each Dock is programmed with a unique MAC address during the manufacturing process.
The Dock requires a PoE+ switch or the PoE+ injector to supply 30W.
The Dock provides 3A 5V as required in Apple specifications for any USB-C iPad or iPhone.
No. The USB-C Dock is not able to draw power from the iPad. It must receive power from PoE.
You must use an PoE+ switch or PoE+ injector that provides 48V and 30W of power. The adapter will not work with injectors that supply 24V.
Use Cat5e, Cat 6 or Cat 6A cables. If the distance between the Dock and the PoE power source is 100 ft or more, we recommend Cat 6A cables.
Yes. There is a power LED as well as LEDs to display network link status and network activity.
iOS 16.5.x or later.
The Adapter is 4.50″ x 2.35″ x .95″
No. This adapter supports USB-C iPads only.
Redpark focuses on the iPhone/iPad market. We have not conduced tests with other types of tablets or laptops. The dock may function with other tablets or laptops but may not provide sufficient power for these other devices.
